Do they make bulbs that would fit a 4' hood light?

You can get the small, screw in compact fluorescents for your hood. That's what I have on my 10gal CRS tank. Pretty decent light for a small tank - though I don't have high-light plants in there - rotala, anubias, crypts

Sometimes, wallmart, meijer, etc have them. You can also check at lowes / home depot.

I got mine from a generic wholesale shop.

I had the same problem, incandescent bulbs, but about a week ago I headed to walmart and got a two pack of 6500k daylight compact fluorescents. Working fine, but I have a good seal around my glass top.
