So my son has started a program for early education and his class doesn't have a Fish Tank. I have an extra 10 gallon laying around (who doesn't) and have gotten the okay to set up the tank in his classroom. My question is what do you think is Hardy and colorful enough to put in the tank. My goal is to educate the kids on fishkeeping and of course for them to enjoy looking at and feeding the fish.

What are your suggestions and if anyone has any photos of cool 10 gallon set up please share them

Howdy, we adopted the school Aquarium last year, too!
We've got guppies and Cory cats and a hoplo cat. Gotta be hardy! And some java fern and floating verb to illustrate the nutrient cycle.

Good luck!

Goldies!!!!!! My first fish (and still my favorite) was a 11" common I had to give up.......might've gotten bigger) Tough, active, colorful, no aggression, easy to breed if you want, won't breed if you don't want. Oh yeah, my most successful tank before I fully understood fishkeeping (ph, plants etc.) was cories dwarf gouramiis- all colors careful to give each one a territory where he doesn't have to see his freinds and wcmm. Tough as nails, not goldfish, so my dormmates didn't think I was nuts, and very happy for 2 years in my 10 gallon, until I put them in the main tank and lost all my stock to finrot :(
3-5 year olds are still young enough to appreciate goldfish though, so I would stick to them just don't get feeder fish - best I ever had out of them is 70% making it to 1 month - buy the ones that aren't in a tank with sick fish and you can easily have 100% at the end of the year with minimal care.

Thanks for the input guys

Could always get those trippy glofish haha.
You get danio glofish.

Danios are busy, eat like champs and like being in groups. I would say ideal for younger kids
