10 Gallon Tank for classsroom of 3 to 5 year olds

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Could always get those trippy glofish haha.

Lol, I was actually thinking this too. My three year old has a ten gallon tank with those in it and absolutely loves them. I even tried to get him to pick something else last time I got him some fish but he refused to get anything but glofish. Lol. They "glow" pretty nicely if you get the blue LED light that goes with them. I've also heard that a black light makes them "glow" the best, but I haven't tried it yet.

My sister in law is a headstart teacher and she has guppies in her classroom tank. They're hardy, colorful and the kids get to see the cycle of life with babies being born. Just be careful not to overstock since you will have fry so maybe start with 3 or 4 females and a couple males.

My first thought was glow fish. Either them or guppies.

I would go shrimp just because the bioload will stay low and they are fun to watch. A 10 gallon is also big enough for a dwarf cray.

ThanThanks again for the great suggestions I'm thinking going Fancy Guppies with come cories.ks again for the great suggestions I'm thinking going Fancy Guppies with some cory's.

Be sure to do dwarf cories. I think shrimp in small tanks are super cool. If you don't care that some shrimplets are eaten they can be with other fish.

I love my 10 gallon planted tank with shrimp, chili rasboras (like 20) and one single leftover dwarf cory (from a work tank that I took down.) Both my husband and I love staring into the mini world. :)

Have fun with your tank! The kids will love it:)
I enjoyed my ten gallon the most when it was planted with trapdoor snails, hitchhiker spiral snails, and a male betta. Right now it just has four hideously boring glofish. That's the last time I let the kids pick fish. Lol
