I keep 3 male Jags together in a comm. So far without problems....

10 jags is just to many fish . but heres my old thread they said it couldnt be done and that everything would die. I never had one agression death only power outages

there was a breeding pair of midas bout 8 to 10 inchs long on one end the tank with fry. a pair of jags same size at the other end of the tank with fry. and the rest the fish just did there thing. jack dempseys, pollini, myan cichlids catfish no issues. just gota keep all around same size. and they will sort them selfs out

Sounds crazy but I think it'll work. I wouldn't like the look, I'm not a fan of overstocking, but if your going to overstock that's the way to do it, pack'em in.

I actually agree. It sounds crazy but it might work. If you're going to go the overstocking route with large CA/SA cichlids then you have to really overstock. I hope you're going to have the tank on a drip system or auto water change system of some sort though because that's going to create a major bioload.

Focusing on the filtration will be the priority with an overstocked tank.....I have seen tanks loaded with Red Devils and Parrotfish, they grew amazingly fine...........The secret is filtration and water changes.....As for the aggression, well do not ask, it is like a buying a bunch fighting roosters and placing them in a large yard........
:naughty:

I agree with keeping up your filtration. all depending on size too. maybe 5-6 jags and 5-6 devils and introduce at same time. it is possible.

that type of overstocking does make for an interesting and active tank. the biggest drawback, imo, is that you're not really going to see anything close to their natural behavior in a setup like that

just remember cichlids are prone to hole in the head... not a pretty disease..too many in one tank causes stress and that ugly disease pops up ...

i wouldnt do all the same type ide do difrent tyypes to mix it up

x2 conspecific aggression is always MUCH higher than intraspecific aggression. I have 6 firemouth cichlids in a 125 that are only 2" and even so they chase each other quite a it. I imagine jags would be much worse. Plus as mentioned I doubt you would see any natural behavior at all but if that's what you want to do... Just have many spare tanks available because it only takes one fish to go phscho and mess it up the whole balance.
