Hell yeah bro very nice I freaking love mine yours is also sweet! My thing is this:

you know how they say these guys are the mini Umbee and the Grammodes the mini Dovii. Well I understand this and all and I do give them both credit. However I do not think the Istalatum is quite the menacing fish pound for pound size for size that the Grammodes is.
Now do not get me wrong I actually enjoy the overall personality of the Istalatum better than Grammodes. Regardless, the reason I say this is my Istalatum at 6.5''; from the moment of being introduced into my largest tank (with nothing but all aggressive cichlids of large size some 3 times larger than he) checked, stood up to, and demanded respect from every and all fish in the tank. However than he backed off and became what one could say a kind of somewhat peaceful ruler or one of them anyhow. He now does not mess with any of them to any serious extent anyhow. He does however have no respect what so ever for others territory, but that is because he does not have to.
On the flip side though my old Grammodes Male when exactly the same size, well he was relentless from the moment of introduction. He would not have peace, no matter the size of the fish, no matter what it was war from day one until if allowed all would have been history! Hell he had to be taken out, I could only keep his female counter part in the tank and even she was a constant punk. So looking back they are both super rad fish, both really impressive to own for the cichlid lover, but in this fish keepers opinion the Grammodes is the more nearly fish pond for pound inch for inch. What do you think ever kept the two for any extent of time?

Oh also let me add this though. I do think that at 10'' these guys would be a formable adversary for any fish the same size on the reallla

Thanks for the great comment!

As far as mini umbee not even close to umbee. Umbee are prowlers and have quick snaps almost comparable to say like Channa. They aren't nicknamed the Green Monsters for nothing lol. Istlanum are more like Managuense/most parachromis or Nandopsis species personality wise.

My istlanum even though he's kind of cautious around humans he would stand up to my 13-14" midas who was a monster physco ( so much so he killed himself because of it, broke a heater and glass stuck right into his head) but my Istlanum would never back down no matter.

Istlanum are definately a high contender for Tank rulers. Never kept grammodes so i don't know much about them.
