I got my black, gold, and red wolf fish 10 months ago. Last December they were all Christmas gifts. This is the first time I've had wolf fish. I have to say I'm enjoying raising them. From my experience, the ones I have are pretty chill and docile. They are actually all living together in a 6 foot aquarium and have never once fought. The Black Wolf fish is the more dominant feeder he will happily take food from my hands and bite a finger off. He is also the one putting on the most size. I got him at 3-4'' he is now quickly approaching 8-10'' eyeballing. The gold wolf fish is a wuss. My festae bullies it but he is eating much more now and has also put on some size. got him at 4'' and he is now 7-9''. the only one not really growing is the red wolf. he stays hidden in a cave with my niger cat I only see him come out to eat. At one point he would school with the gold wolf but for some reason that stopped.
I will get some updated pics for you all.
I have to admit usually I grow fish and sell/ trade them but in recent years I kind of cut back on doing that and now I'm getting attached. I don't think these guys are going anywhere. I've named my black wolf Leo. The gold is nemo since when I got him he is missing a fin.
None of them bother the tankmates. In fact the black wolf is scared of my 10'' niger catfish. the gold wolf is scared of the festae. the red wolf is the smallest in the tank.
hoping the peace remains the same into adult hood.
their tankmates are 3 severums, 2 pimelodus blochii, a vulture catfish, 3 firemouths, a jack dempsey, a large tiger oscar, the festae, and 4 wide bar silver dollars and the niger cat. I know on paper the stock is crazy but the tank has a fluval fx4, another older fluval canister, and 3 hob filters. i do plan on cutting stock a bit in the future. maybe to just the wolfs, cats, oscar, 1 severum, festae, and widebars. rehome the niger and vulture when approriate.
but anyways figured I'd share an update since in December I posted how happy I was to get these guys. :)

Pics?
Sounds great! I hope it works out long term, but you never know with wolves (or cichlids).
Reds tend to hide a lot when other fish are around, they are much more bold on their own. Mine is always at the top waiting for food.

Here is a video of the black wolf currently... will get one of gold wolf later.
Check out my black wolf fish! I have had him for 10 months!! I got him in December of 2021 at just 4 inches. Today he is pushing 8-9''. Don't mind the water I need to do filter cleanings.
Enjoy the video!

What is making your water that color?
Could be tannins and not the filter
it was the driftwood! I removed it and got rid of that hideous water! :)
On a positive note, I finally got the pictures! These guys look so much bigger than when i got them 11 months ago. The smallest growing of the 3 is the red wolf but he is getting there.

Those are good looking wolves
Thank you! I have never given them feeder goldfish and won't. goldfish damage south american fish.
for example my tiger oscar has never even eaten a fish before and he had 2'' tiger barbs and didn't eat them. he is over 10 inches he could have pounded them one by one. he is a perfect 10 inch plus oscar no hole in the head.
live feeding gold fish really no need to in my opinion unless no guppies or tetras or convicts around

In agreement. I no longer feed live food but when I did I used locally sourced minnows. In addition to the reasons you listed, I've found that fish can hurt themselves chasing feeders, knock themselves silly or crack a heater. So maybe it's a practice reserved for those keepers with big tanks and sumped equipment.
