The LFS has a responsibility to sell you a correct species of fish regardless of if its marked or not. Jacks down here run about 10 bucks for that size. I would take it back and tell them its NOT an umbee.

That is a sweet Jack and hopefully you keep it. It could end up being your favorite fish. I had a big Jack like that a long time ago and I loved it. Send it me, I'll take it.

Male dempseys are thick like that Dakota, its not a short bodied fish, plus it's older that's why it has a bend to it.

Oh really Quinn,
well I guess it's good to know then hey?

You are incredibly rude.:irked:

Male jack, not sb, older jack's often develop a bent spine as posted. Good deal for 20$....who cares if it is common, a considerable amount of us still keep oscars.

when the fish guy calls u rude... that means ur rude bro... lol... it kinda was a good point tho. nice jack anyway... if u dont want it bring it back...

i'm more on YBF's side on this issue

If the OP was SO informed about common fish and trying to avoid them, than why couldn't he tell it was a Jd. If no one set him straight he'd be calling it an umbriferium till the day he died.

i agree with everything else you stated though.

yeah but fish keeping to me is more hands on than informational
and you got to move up to the monsters eventually.
it's a nice jack and don't take him back, if you got him all healthy in
his new home, he deserves to stay.

:iagree: give the guy a chance. I have had A couple large jd and I loved them. I was sad when my catfish killed them. I think it's all in the personality of the fh, not how "common" they are. Heck I have an awesome clown knife and they are very common, I wouldn't sell my clown for $100 and I bought him for $15.
