WHOA! I am super excited now!! I just found a place that is about 15 minutes from me that will sell me a 8x4 sheet of 1" cell cast acrylic for $480.00!! He can even have it the same day!
I am thinking now I am going to make my window even bigger since I get a whole sheet and he will cut it to the size I need!
15.00 sq. ft for 1" acrylic....I consider that a HUGE win!![]()
I have been looking and I am thinking that 1" acrylic should be fine. The water level on the window will only be about 24-25" max. It's not going to go to the top of the window and also the window does not start at the bottom of the tank. It's 16" up from the floor.
1" acrylic is 35.00 a sq. ft, which is fine and it's lighter in weight than glass.
This is sort of the look I am looking to get with no top brace:I love this look! My concern is not having a top brace I think you need to go with thicker acrylic than a panel that was supported at the top? Is this true? I'm planning a concrete build myself and some of the acrylic calculators ask specifically if the top of the acrylic sheet is supported or not. If not it almost doubles the thickness required.
Just curious your thoughts on this?
