100 gallon acrylic leaking on side

Well i cleaned the tank off but never really used alcohol. Do you think the job will be compromised?

You can check for wicking in the seam. If it's too hard to discern visually, use package tape to tape a litmus test strip along the repaired seam. If the litmus exhibits a color change, that will indicate that moisture is wicking through the seam.

the bonding agent used on acerlic actuly melts the acerlic so it makes a chemical bond, and contains lots of monemer and ( asitone to acelarate thp prosess)
so silicone will not make a chemical bond .
so hear comes the crazy part deteregent is hsed to aberase acerlic .
with a stiff brisel brush scrube that corner only from top to bottom leaving a 1'' to 1/2''sratchy ser face on ethir side using a mix of powdered detergent (tide) and water after that you must rinse very well use warm water to desolve deiergent then rinse agin soap kills.
now you con use silicone to make a mechanal bond I am no expert at any thing but I have lot of interest and picked up lots of usefull knoledge along the way , also I have not tried this so i would get an second apenyon ask odball he seems smart and can be very helpful.
nice in thery though:screwy:

Well i have the leak coated overnight with weld #16! Wish i scatched the surface and used alcohol, i knew i should i waited for my fish guy!
I will risk the fill up even though the tank is over my bead when i sleep! The area seems really tight, i am impressed on this weld stuff! Still i will be amazed when i fill it up and it is perfect again!
Still i am wondering if i would be risking my BGK if it leaks again and i am not home sine the crack goes down the side to 2 inches to the bottom then 12 inches up the seam!

If it dosent work out yuo might want to do some re serch on my thery I can see a mechanacal bond holding and sylacone makes a very good selent.

I would recommend that you clean with a cotton diaper and warm water instead. Alcohol will clean acrylic but will also make it brittle and promote crazing. It will ruin extruded quicker because extruded acrylic contains more internal stress due to the way it is pressed through a form while manufactured. Which is why annealing is recommended. But who does that.

Cell cast is a little toughter because it is literally cast(poured) into a cell. Two vertical glass panels (Polycast), others use the horizontal method of casting. Either way you never want to use undiluted isopropyl alcohol directly on acrylic, it will cause crazing to occur much faster.

Wish me luck guys, its been 36 hours and i am going to fill it up for a few hours before i go to work! Anybody have a suggestions
i will drain it before work then fill again when i get home, just in case, i cant risk total flood, willing to risk a few gallons though! Hoping my job worked, never did anything like this before but the seal looks good!

I cracked the bottom of my acrylic before I was able to place my first fish in the tank. Used the weld-on #16 and all is well. Most times I dont even remember i cracked it. You should be alright. Hey did you know this is the stuff they make planes with....:WHOA:
