That really sucks. At least it didn't blow out completely with your brother sleeping so close.
I just had a 60g tank let go of its center brace when I was filling it in the basement. The glass bowed by 1/2" in the center of a 46" long tank. I'm lucky it didn't crack or let go of a seam. I partially filled it (40g) and it seems to be okay (1/8" bow).
I can't imagine what I would do if one of my big tanks let go. Stories like this always makes me nervous. Good luck with your tank.
wow i can't believe your brother didn't wake up at first.
wow thats horrible man, pretty lucky you didn't lose anything...also very lucky you had spare tanks around to put them in.
ouch though...thats discouraging.
I caught a leak on my 125g right before I went to bed a couple years ago...only 5-10 gallons had leaked out before I realized it. Luckily my neighbor/friend had a spare 55 and I was able to house my fish in that temporarily...but yeah...an awful situation.
see this is exactly why I paid a little more for a refurbed 125g rather than straight from someone's garage. The stand was reinforced and the tank resealed by the guy who I bought it from. prolly cost him 75-100$ for the setup and he sold it refurbed for 245$. well worth it imo.
I'm glad there were no losses. I'd go grab some tank sealant and fix that tank. give it adequate time to dry and maybe even put on some 2x bracing from your home improvement store. should pevent the issue from happenign again.
I think its kinda funny. Like u wake up ur brother still sleeping will ur living room is flooding. U think he would be up doin somethin but no hes fast asleep. But it does suck
The reality is that you cannot guarantee any tank. Although new ones have a higher probablility of leaking. It could happen to any tank. there are a variety of factors that could have cause the spill. Glad to hear you didn't lose any fish.
You have the right attitude at least, that things could have been a lot worse. On a bright note, resealing a tank like that should be a cynch and then it'll be as good as new.
im sorry to hear about ur DIY flash flood! im glad all the fish made it!!
what kinda fish were in the tank before it made the tinkle?
