100 Gallon tank setup!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello! Nice score on the tank.

If it were me I would:
-Paint the background black
-Replace the gravel with something nicer looking
-Replace lighting with a T5 coralife fixture
-Get a large capacity canister filter... I would go Fluval FX5... ratings aside I feel as if the FX5 alone is doing the bare minimum on my 125 gallon... also a good filter to have if you ever want to go bigger.
-Split up the tank with more aquascaping if you want to add more fish... that way you can break sight lines and let the oscar establish territory, although there is always the chance your oscar is an A-hole and will go berserk anyway

Check out my 125 gallon setup thread in my signature... cheers.

Ok sounds good i have done the background black and im getting an FX5 soon plus replacing the gravel with sand :)

Great deal on the tank. With a lil more TLC, your tank will look great. Sand bed and a better light fixture will do wonders to the overall ambiance of the tank.

Also if you're going to introduce an oscar to an already established oscar tank, maybe dithers would help, just a precaution in case of any fighting between the two

I like the dimensions on that tank, and it sounds like you got a great deal!

I agree with the others, I'd add a background and switch the gravel to a light sand, but really it's up to you and personal preference. Your Oscar looks really happy! Adding a second one might or might not work... many adult Oscars are set in their ways and get crabby if another one is added. If by chance you get a M/F pair, it could be exciting times in that tank.
