Hello, I have a 100 gallon tank. I currently have it stocked with a featherfin cat, firemouth, texas, nicaraguense, jack dempsey, and some sort of hybrid( no idea what its mixed with). I just wanted some advice if its over stocked or if i could add some more cichlids. I also have 5 tinfoil barbs. As for filtration, I have two HOB filters one is a aquaclear 110, the other is a marineland bio-wheel 350. I have also a marineland C-360 cannister filter. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Is it one of the 72x18x18 100 gallons? Or one of the shorter, taller ones? Footprint makes a difference with territorial fish like cichlids.

I'd day your at max stock for sure, possibly overstocked once the fish get to full size and also depending on the individual temperament of your fish.

I've heard Texas cichlids can be quite mean, all of the cichlids are around 5-6 in. What would you recommend if the Texas snaps.

I'd recommend another tank. And if you're gonna go to the trouble and expense of getting another tank, well.....you might as well get a BIG one.

Get a 600 gallon tank, put it close to an exterior wall of your house, and close to a tap water supply. Put a sump and a drip system. Then you can buy all the fish you want. Or you could grow some Umbee's in there!

Seriously. You can do it. Tell 'em I said it's alright. :)

ETA: I see you're in Florida. That means you can drive to Conkel's place, or CoA, or MIke's, and actually LOOK at a vat of CA cichlids and choose the ones you want--I'm jealous. Soon as I get enough airline miles for a free flight, that's what I'm doing.

^ What he said :D

if that's not in your realm of possibilities however, I'd recommend re-homing the texas or the hybrid (hybrids can get very nasty) or both. After that your stock would probably be okay. If you wanted to add a couple small cichlids like maybe a rainbow or a blue acara, It would be fine if you took those two big mean guys out.

Yeah I would remove the Texas and Hybrid, and add other smaller cichlids.... Although you will have to keep an eye on the Jack Dempsey.

I think I will remove the texas, he recently started harassing the nic which happens to be my favorite fish :). Im going to keep an eye on the the hybrid as it does have beautiful coloration.

My lfs took the texas and the hybrid has been put in place by the nic and is behaving. I was considering a chocolate cichlid or maybe a green terror. Could this work? And thanks for all the responses! I also have 6 Salvinis im growing out, im hoping for a pair, could this work out?
