Hi guys. I've recently bought a 150x50x50 cm or 59x20x20 inches tank, but I'm not sure on the stocking. I thought to stock it with some cichlids from the African lakes but I'm not entirely sold on it.
What would be some cool stocking options for you?
Thanks

Africa tank could be really cool with this tank size, some peaceful cichlids 1-2 polypterus, African butterflyfish and maybe a cool big African pleco.

What are you looking to do, roughly?

Wet pets, ancient fish, monsters, africans, CA/SA community, peaceful community, saltwater?

That'll give us something to work with.

If you wanted to do African cichlids, I would go with tanganyikans. They are (in my opinion) more unique and oddball-looking than the mbuna, who all kind of look like different colors of the same car. Some cool fish to look at would be : altolamprologus compressiceps, cyprichromis, Ocellatus shell dweller.

Another option would be a colony of cryptoheros. You could pick your favorite species and get 8 or so of them, along with some swordtails as dithers. This is a fun option, I have a tank like this with P. Panamensis and a few random growouts. It is entertaining to watch the group dynamic and is an active tank.
Here are my panamensis playing follow the leader

I have pretty much the same size tank now. I have 3 nimbo. livingstonii (1 male and 2 female) - (not sure if this will be suitable long term- I am getting mixed advice here) with two poly. senegalus and an upside Asian catfish. Quite an active tank. Everyone always moving.

I am thinking of changing the livingstonii s out and getting altolamprologus calvus (Congo black) and neo. Leleupis. Keeping the Polys. Making it a tanganyika tank

You could go West Africa biotope with the following fish
Congo tetras
Leopard bushfish
African knifefish
African red eye tetras
African butterfly fish
Jewel cichlids
Thomasi dwarf cichlids
Blockhead cichlids
Kribensis cichlids
Upside down catfish
Or for a larger oddball community you could try
Dwarf giraffe catfish
Angelicus Synodontis
Featherfin catfish
Pike characin
Senegal bichir
Delehizi bichir
Rainbow Wolf fish
Snakeskin gourami
Etc

Polypterus can cohab with just about anything that is not overly aggressive or can fit in the polypterus mouth.
