100 liters Pond Matrix in 750 gallon setup

Here's my conclusion of the matter in regard to the Pond Matrix in my sump:

I agree my comparison has several flaws such as different fish/bioloads, also could have tested water only at a set time(s) per week so to better compare any change in nitrate level over time. My purpose with this post is simply to present the data so that members here might draw their own conclusions. I also give my opinion.

I cannot quantify the nitrate reduction due to the presence of the Matrix in the setup. However, based on my experience with nitrate buildup in my setups over the years with "comparable" bioloads, in conjuction with the slower nitrate buildup in this 750gal setup as evidenced in the Test Readings, I am fairly certain that the Matrix has been a contributing factor in lowering the nitrate.

On an even more subjective note, my personal observation of the 450gal & 750gal setups over the past 8 months of water changes, even before gathering the test results, has revealed a marked difference in the frequency of water changes needed between the two setups. Needless to say, it has been a pleasant surprise each time I went to do water changes in which approximately 50% of those times I discovered that the water change was not needed for the 750gal setup while it was needed for the others. That right there is the final result that really matters to me.

I read up on the Maxspect site a little and I'm excited to try this. They're small enough that I can fit a number of them in my sump, though I don't see the catalyst sold at Amazon.com (USA site) or any of my usual sites I purchase from.

Question: how do you clean the Maxspect blocks? For the Matrix in my sump I can see how it's important to clean around every 6 months; I've cleaned them about 3-4 months ago by vigorously shaking the bags in declorinated water and alot of gunk/material fell off.
I buy from BRS.

In terms of cleaning and or replacement they haven’t responded to my email yet. They don’t have the specific product manual either and only has shows nano Nano Tech Phosphree. This is just my educated guess but part of the reason the carbon catalyst has a short 60 day shelf life is the pores get blocked quickly making it less efficient. Once I get a reply I’ll update this thread.

I did a support ticket through Maxspect website the reply came from Grace at Bulk Reef Supply.

Hey there,
I am reaching out regarding a message we received from Maxspect. To clean the blocks, you can rinse it off with tank water when you do a water change and that typically takes care of it. You can gently scrub them as well if there is some stuff junk on them. When to replace over cleaning would really be if they are too dirty to clean, however you dont want to replace all of them at the same time. If you have just one for example, it would be recommended to swap out half. If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Have a wonderful weekend!

So I assume cleaning the exterior surface in declorinated water similar to what I do with the Matrix might work. Or maybe going a step further and also wiping with a soft bristled brush.
