1000 gallon filter

I have the question can i put a 1000 gallon pond filter on a 55 saltwater or 30 gallon freshwater tank i was told its too big.

HOZELOCK cyprio 500 gallon per hour 300 dollar filter it has bio media in it too.

Why would you want to? Saltwater is better off with live rock, and a good skimmer.

that is the best idea. I might try it on a FW tank, but not a SW tank.
