1000 gallon pond, habitant suggestions?

I was looking into building a 1000 gallon pond with the dimensions 8'x6'x3' and was wondering if anyone had any good suggsetions along the lines of fish for a cold water set up
 
Outdoor or indoor pond? Larger Sunfish (Warmouth, pumpkinseed, longears), You could also add some rock bass. A school of yellow perch is a beautiful sight, depending on your geographic location (they like cooler temps than most). I would stay away from Large mouth/small mouth bass as it will limit what other fish you can put in.

I am actually in the process of building a 1250 gallon indoor pond in my basement, with a glass viewing window. Enjoy the build and let us know how it turns out. Good Luck!
 
on contrare, for cold water, i'd love to see a few bass in there, or better yet! some trout like the ones they have in Mammoth CA (only place i ever fish) so you can go fishing in your backyard whenever you want. =) otherwise maybe some koi with some small turtles with like a mini island in the middle of hte pond for hte turtles. Just an idea
 
You would need an expensive setup for the trout(Chiller, lots of aeration, super filter). Not suitable for home ponds.
 
it would be an indoor pond, i was thinking about some longears and possibly some bullhead catfish, but the perch might not be a bad idea, i was just really seeing if anyone had anything unexpected

i wouldn't go with trout, they are too much of a pain to keep, not that i have tried
 
Yea longears would be great. I would consider the perch, they are peaceful and are great when in a school they would go great with a school of sunnies.. I have a contact where you can get some shipped to you for very cheap if you need in the spring unless ytou can catch them easily near you. Have fun
 
well i am not going to start the pond for a while but i was thinking of busting out a stock list before i build it
 
If you go with bullheads, I suggest you try to get one of the smaller species, such as snail or spotted bullheads. The typical browns, yellows, and blacks can be hard on sunfish.
 
Hey, Jridge, can I get that contact? I'm lookin for some yellow perch, but I cant get anything under $4 per fish, plus $25 shipping.
