1000g acrylic rebuild...putting humpy back together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Damn iPad.....
So the previous owner cut it up to store it. It is 1.5" thick all the way around. No bulkhead holes either.

If the condition of the acrylic is good...no crazing, cracks, or big gauges....can I use weld on 40 to reassemble? I would sand the contact points and use forms to create 90degree angles

Thoughts?

Hmmmm.... I'm sure it can be done. I would call around and see if you can pay company to wield it back. I'm sure everything will have to be perfect seam wise. If the price is cheap why not.

Hoping i can get it for under $500. There is a company that is local that could do it but they are a pain to deal with. I think the guys working there have sniffed entirely too much glue. Plus moving it would be another adventure since it won't fit in my pickup truck. It seems like a cool project (I have built sumps and the like before) and the tank would be either an outside or garage tank so I am not too concerned about if I make an ugly seem or if it blows (god forbid!). I have buffed and polished a 350g, 375g, and 480g with some pretty sizeable scratches so that isn't going to be a big deal, but my shoulders hurt just thinking about it. But a 1000g acrylic tank, for $600 (I figure I need $100 of weld on 40) would be pretty amazing.

I would give it a try if you can get it at the right price. Seems mighty strange to cut it up to store.

The lady told me the tank was too large to fit into the house, so the previous owner cut it at the seams (quite cleanly I might add), to reassemble in the house. Then, I guess there was some sort of barter and the guy left with a pickup truck and she kept the tank to sell.

I think that as long as the panels are in good shape, I'm gonna go for it. Any halfway decent used 1000g acrylic tank will cost me about $5k

Off topic but when i saw your name, i remembered the large L47 we were trying to get to eat. U still got him? If so, he'll look might sweet in the 1k!

I have had rotten luck with L47s. I did get a 10" L47 from snookin but it got delayed in shipping due to a storm. It arrived 2 days later, in about 1" of cold water with the bag popped, it wasted away and died after 3 months. Then I ordered some from fw exotics and usps "lost" them for 3 days! 3 of the 4 died. 1 is doing well in my 350g pleco tank. = )
