1000gal "cube" pre-thoughts before build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:) yes it will be built in place in the basement on concrete. and the entire front wall of the tank will be built out of 2x4's with a external framing so that it will be easier on the seams. im not planning on doing double sheet ply however i will be placing a 4x4 where all the seams of ply will be joining together so the will screw in solid... then the seams will be filled with bondo, sanded down and then get atleast 2 coats of fiberglass.. at for the top bracing i will build a frame probably out of 2x4's with cross beams about every 3 feet... as far as the question on the 3/8 thick tempered im assuming that if it held the water without a problem in the 320gallon at 30 inches tall then it will hold in this tank but if you lookin into it further i would appricieate it!! remember the glass wont be a full 13foot long the viewing windows will be constructed of 3 pieces of glass (1 at 7ft, 2 at 3ft) with a 2x4 divinging and bordering every glass panel for support. thank you for putting thoughts into this build, im going to consider every good idea into this build before getting started

heres a little "blueprint" of the basement. from wall to wall where the tank will sit is 14ft (with exterior framing the outside of the tank will be wall to wall). i am going to have the water overflow into the next room to keep it quiet and so i have unlimited room for filtration. i need help with the sump idea because i dont know how to get maximum flitration when all my overflows will be on the far side of the tank

For filtration you really can't beat the VLDDesign approach. He has the 1500 gallon in the sticky. Huge sump chucked full of bio balls. He also has plans for a DIY radient heater with cost and savings numbers. Then couple that with a Santa Monica style Algae Turf Scrubber

Just add fish.

wow good luck. alot of water if the glass fails.

one of my buddies at work has a family owned glass business, i just found out today.. and they just happen to have some 1/2 thick glass laying in the back that they cant sell :) as long as he has enough glass ill be buying it for $6 per sqr foot!!! heres my question. if i do 2 viewing windows in this (13.5ft) tank and my viewing windows are 72x30 will 1/2 be thick enough for the tank being 156x48x30tall? i think since im going with 2 viewing windows split down the middle i wont have any "bowing" factor length ways. the only thing im worried about is if 30inches tall will be alright with almost 1000 gallons behind it
