A couple months ago I purchased a 100g setup off of craigslist. The setup came with a stand, heater and filter (though honestly the filter isen't that good and the heater never shuts itself off) and all of that cost me $130. The tank is old. It has a slate bottom, steel frame and it extreamly heavy. I could not find a hood for it so I used some cut plexi-glass and velcro instead. The tank is home to my collection of large sunfish. There is a longear sunfish, pumpkinseed, green sunfish, rock bass and largemouth bass. I would post a full tank shot but there really isen't much decor. A couple rocks and a piece of fake driftwood is it.

No leaks means its a good enough tank if you ask me. Good luck with your new setup.

Oh it has been setup for awhile, the fish have been in there since I got it two months ago, I just moved the filter and gravel over with them. I was also worried that it would leak but I guess its safe. The original owner was using it up till I bought it anyway, or so she told me.

Who needs a heater, when you have a slate bottom tank!

Just light a candle under the tank like back in the day!

LOL, those fish don't need a heater anyway so I'm good. But now I'm wondering if they actually used to do that.

Yes....They did do that, I have heard.

I love old slatebottom tanks, I found one I bought a few years ago from a garage sale(it leaks) the other day, and I may get into re-sealing it in the next few months or so...its a beautiful tank that has a high polish chrome looking frame all around it :) Nice pickup BTW :D

This is my first slate bottom and I really like it as well, I think I prefer the slate bottom over glass except for how heavy it makes it.
