i hate my substrate. the gravel was just laying around so i used it.
i'll probably change to black gravel or sand when the tank gets moved into my dorm

if ur going to go through all that effort to switch substrate i would recommend using plant substrate.

i.e.

flourite
eco complete
ADA aqua soil
the list continues etc... etc..

u dont have to switch, ur tank looks pretty damn good despite the substrate. the plants seem to be healthy, there doesn't seem to be any deficiencies.

Thanks :)

i was thinking of getting some black sand flourite. Im also planning on replacing the swords with crypts and creating a carpet of flame or java moss.

btw your 15g is awesome

Dang son, looks good, what kinda of filter are you running?? Its spotless...!!! I need to start mine up asap.

lol thanks. the filter is a whisper 30. 150gph, so 15x turnover rate plus now i have a c02 diffuser i made w/ an extra pump, so a total of 210-220 gph, so 21-22x turn over rate :D. there's A LOT of current with very minimal surface agitation.

Also the betta was taken out since he ate one of my pencil fish's eyes, so current isn't a problem

Good looking tank. I have a similar 10 gallon planted setup, except I have a darker flourite substrate which I prefer. That black background definitely helped.
