How is the tank put together in terms of the glass planels being put togehter?

no clue.. lol. it's still sitting in pieces, leaning against the wall in my livingroom.

I have been pricing cell cast acrylic sheets for the 10'x4'x2.5' and wanted to know if I could get away with 20mm sheets?
This is due to the jump in price, low stock of 25mm sheets and that the machine polished edges are only available for sheets up to 20mm.

You could use 20mm. My 300 is 30" tall and uses 1/2" or 20mm. Of course, there will be more bowing of the front and a wonderful uneasy feeling I have looking at the tank. if you can dig it out of the budget, I would urge you to try and use 25mm.

1/2" is just slightly less than 13mm. 25mm is very close to 1".

i may be wrong, but i think i remember reading that JohnPTC's acrylic viewing panels are 2" thick (50mm approx). i think (though i have no first hand experience) for a tank made entirely of acrylic at 800 gallons or more should be a minimum of 1.5" or aproximately 40mm thick.

The thickness of the acrylic is dependent on the length and the height of the aquarium. JohnPTC's is a lot bigger than this.

are we not talking about a 10' x 4' (approx.) hunk o acrylic? the glass for my 800 gallon tank is 3/4" (19mm thick), am i correct in believing that acrylic needs to be thicker than glass in the same size application?

Most calculators tell me that 25mm is better as Pharoah suggested but I wanted to know if 20mm is possible.
LxWxH 10'x4'x2.5' so 1" or 1.25" have the standard industry saftey factor of 3.8.
For me it is about the cost together with the safety and longevity of the tank.
20mm acrylic cut to size with polished edges alone has the same cost of 15mm glass cut to size and put together at $250 an/hr by tank builders.
25mm acrylic is more again and I am leaning toward having a glass tank built in my shed.

The height is 2.5' or 30". The 48" depth doesn't come into play for glass calculations.

BTW, fromt he research I have done. You can build the tank how you like. Side panels sitting on top of the bottom or side panels butting up against the bottom. Either way will work. My 540G that I am selling was the latter.
