Hi guys and gals. I'm looking into building a 10'x6'x6' tropical pond in my garden. its mainly for a RTCxTSN and maybe some other big fish. I know the hybrid can get to around 4' so the pond should be big enough. what do you guys and girls think? what other species would you recommend?

what kind of liner are you using? are you buying one single piece? also personally, my pond is 10 foot long and i wish i had gone longer, and all i have is koi. a hybrid rtc/tsn will be able to swim two and half body lengths and then turn around at 10 foot. have you gotten to any filtration thoughts yet?

atm its still in the planning stages. what kind of filtration do you suggest? as to heating I know. The house I should be moving to has a spare heating system that runs on electricity but it stores charge so it won't cost as much as purchasing a brand new heating system. as to the length, how big is your RTCxTSN and is it comfortable? what length do you suggest?

oh sorry, I misread that. I thought you said you have a hybrid

its also going to have a shelter around it, similar to a shed

I would increase the length and take away depth. That way you increase swimming space for the fish but decrease the amount of water you'll have to heat.:)

thats a good idea. from the info ive found. the RTCxTSN hybrid gets to about 4' so how much dpth would you suggest

I was thinking of doing something similar to this but I was going to build a huge, well insulated plywood tank.

I was going to build a plywood box the size I wanted, then use 2x2-2x4 bracing around the outside then use cellotex and expanding foam to insulate it and use treated tung and groove to finish it off.

Then build a sloped roof and 2 large accesses panels above the glass for cleaning and maintenance and an insulated panel I could clip on in front off the glass for when it gets really cold.

Basically think a big well insulated shed with a glass panel lol

I worked out the insulation and it should stay as warm as keeping it in your house without your heating on, just what I was planning but trust me a pond will cost mega bucks to heat because the heat escapes strait out of the top
