While stripping my female Kennyi x Red Zebra of her babies, I counted 11 babies as they came out. when i recounted, there were 10 fry zipping around, not 11! I decided to let them relax and when i looked again, i found this!!!

Siamese Twin Cichlids!!!

they have been alive for 3 days now outside of their mother's pouch (the previous picture was taken the day of stripping) and appear to be doing well. they are trying to eat with some success, so as long as they can excrete wastes (poop) they should survive.

this was taken today:

As you can see, they are growing slower than the other babies from the same batch, so soon i will need to separate the twins from the rest of their siblings as they will probably get bullied by the others.

I want to see how they cope with their disability, but as long as they function well enough to survive, i see no reason to euthanize them. I plan on giving them a 10 gallon tank with constant water changes to call their own for the remainder of their lives if they survive... hopefully i can train them to feed from tongs...

Any positive recommendations on helping these little guys survive? Yes, they are hybrids, and no, i will not distribute them... i plan on keeping them simply as personal pets.

Crazy keep us posted

Bloody hell never seen something like this before in a Mbuna! I commend you for taking care of them until however long they survive for. Good luck with them.

Wow and I thought my Bi-color 500 Peacock that was born with out a tail was rare lol. That is too cool. I also have my special needs cichlid in a 10 gallon but she is in there with a White Lab that is now blind due to a fight. My husband calls it my gimp tank. My tailless fishes front half is a little bit smaller than her siblings but seems to be doing ok. Please keep us all posted on these guys progress.

I did some close inspection and it does appear that they have anal pores, but I can't me certain without a magnifying glass... Thanks for the positive feedback, its stirring up a lot of interest in my family and friends!

Lmao hmmmm I really don't know, is it 10, or would somebody vote 11?

Just what the hobby needs, more hybrids. Hybrids make good feeders.

Back off, their my fish, and their not leaving my tanks. I understand the risk of introducing hybrids into the market (especially since the mom looks almost exactly like a Kennyi) and am highly against it. Btw this was about the siamese twins, not the fact that their hybrids...

And its day 4 for them! They seem to be doing well, and it seems like one may becoming more dominant than the other... Idk, time will tell! :D
