That would work just fine as long as the cichlids aren't overly aggressive or bite-sized.

That would work just fine as long as the cichlids aren't overly aggressive or bite-sized.
I havnt seen the full potential of bichirs for myself yet, but my juveniles are quite active and will actively skim the surface of the water in search of pellets. They have also proven to be quite effective at hunting live fish, and have done so relentlessly. Im not sure I would trust an adult with a butterfly.
