110 Gallon changing to pool sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I went with 100lbs for my 90 and its perfect, I left my piranhas in, scooped the gravel out with a net, cut small holes in the bag, stuck a hose in it and let it clean for 15 min per bag, then I poured 1 bag in a 5 gal bucket and a piece of tupperware brought the bucket to the tank and scooped the sand 1 scoop at a time, I scooped the sand with the tupperware and slowly lowered it in the tank then dumped it where I wanted, this kept down on stirring it up, turn off all filters and current and wait 10 min when ur done so all the big pieces settle then fire it up and it'll clear in 4-6 hours. Mine looks amazing!

I'm going to change my substrate from medium rock to sand to give my tank a cleaner more natural look. With that being said my tank is cichlids so they will be diggers. I have 2 emperor filters with each tubes bottom about 8 inches from top of my rocks now. How much should I put in tank (inches)? Any other advice would be appreciated

I have switched my tanks from pea gravel to sand, and then back to pea gravel, many times over the past decade.........Most tanks I illustrate are now "bare tanks," meaning no substarte............It is a cleaner look..............PLus the debris that get caught inside gravel normally, do not have any place to catch on............MOst of the time they are sucked up by the filter or is siphoned out by my hose during water change.............
