They also mainly eat diatoms to my knowledge...guy I work with is studying what kind of diatoms they have been eating. Dissecting fish all the way back to the 60's...Ill be sticking tuned to this one...on here and on PT.

Hmmm, that's good to know. I was planning to keep this setup with a very clean underwater area, but maybe stoneroolers would do better with lots of algae-covered rocks.

They sure are cool fish. I hope that they might work out for this setup.

I think they should...gut analysis is mainly diatoms though if I am not mistaken. Might have to dose some silicates.

I've found stonerollers to be rather delicate and they require multiple feedIngs per day. Mudminnows can get to 7 inches (females, the males get to 5") but they're a lot more sedate than stonerollers.

I have a trio of central mudminnows I bought from Brian Zimmerman last year. They're fantastic little fish, very reminiscent of a pupfish or killifish. They have a coppery snakeskin pattern when they get past an inch or so. Brook sticklebacks would also be a fantastic subject for a riparium.

I agree with ^. i love the sticklebacks i've got, they are amazing watching them hunt for food, they will zip up to a plant and stare at it to see if anything moves then grab it quick. very predator like movements

Oh I would like very much to add sticklebacks, but I though that they were not very aquarium-hardy. I can catch them easily around here. I think the common species we have here is Culaea inconstans. Do you know which one you have Owain4?

I've got about 8 Brook Sticklebacks (Culaea inconstans). they are really easy to catch in the local river. i find that brook sticklebacks in creeks are usually alot bigger in size and take aquarium life quite easy. they are always the first fish up to the surface for feeding. now i've got them eating frozen bloodworms and soft shrimp pellets.

I always hear people say that they look like Baby walleye lol. i thought at first they resembled them but now you can clearly see differently. altho they do seem very predatory. mine hang out by the canister inlet. waiting around for any insect. they also stay in a pretty close group except for the biggest which is just under 2"
