110 water trough/ stock tank

I'm racking my brain on filtration for my 110g stock tank. I have 2 pumps and would like to use 1 for the stock tank but I can't find a filter that isn't stupid overkill for it (oase biosmart 5,000) or crazy expensive for outdoor use like an fx6. I really don't want to use sponge filters because it's outdoors and idk of an outdoor use air pump. Plus I don't want the surface of the water too disturbed like with sponge filter bubbles or a waterfall type filter (tetra pond waterfall filter) so I can actually see and enjoy the fish.. it's for peacock/mbuna cichlids
 
A sump on the side or elevated sump whose output is submerged into the stock tank so you don't see bubbles or water fall. The sump needs water agitation to facilitate removal of CO2 and oxygenation of the biomedia quicker though.
 
You can use this Tetra one and just make the discharge below the water surface. If you do this you won't get the degassing and aeration, but that may not be a big deal depending on density and surface area. I use it for a goldfish tub with the dome attachment and it works great. I feel like can see fine though everyone has their own opinion on that.

Maybe do a DIY overhead filter. Fairly simple to make and cheap and effective. And since its outdoor. If the tank gets natural sunlight. U can add some potho plants for extra filtration.
 
Rocksor Rocksor it's in my front yard and I want it kind of discreet. I have a 2x6 box enclosing the pond so you dont see an ugly stock tank lol.
 
F FLA I could Submerge it on one end with the waterfall filter just a hair above the surface that way it atleast gets micro bubbles but still doesn't disturb the surface to much.
 
Conner Conner I'm not exactly sure what you mean by driving them with submersible pumps without having air pumps or surface disturbance. Elaborate please
 
altums85 altums85 I have an inch and a half above the stock tank to play with, in order to hide everything and I'd rather not have anything but plants above the 2x6 box
