I have been contemplating about what it would take/cost to build one. The dimensions would be 84x84x36. I want this to be a saltwater setup which will be in the middle of my downstairs with dry wall to give it the built in look. Can anyone shoot out some numbers of what the costs for building the tank, saltwater equipment and rocks and substrate would be? Obviously there is more money to be spent on supports, price of fish, etc. Sorry for the vague question but I need to know about how much to save up before I can even think about this kind of project. Thanks.

You'll probably spend a couple g's on glass alone... As far as setting it up for SW, assuming you'll be adding a massive amount of live rock ect... that'll be even more expensive... and then a lighting for that... whoa...

Price is Right rules... I'd say at least $10,000

Glass tank in uk only at L 84 H 48 W 84 think thats the size u wanted 15mm glass thinkness would be £3000 glass only dunno in dollors hope that helped a little

talk to thefishguy he has a thread on here making my 800 gal larger in the diy section

The cost of the tank would be near the $10g range. But add to that the cost of live rocks and lights. You will also need a protein skimmer. Using a couple of cheaper one will still set you back $2k but a good unit (Deltech, Bubble King, ATB, etc) would run $4k or more. If you did lights individually you are still looking at reflector, ballast, bulb at about $500 per unit. We just did a 240g with pretty high end equipment and it was over $15k. I'm not going to discourage you but doing a slat water tank of this magnitude is not going to be cheap.

well you could build the tank out of plywood and glass isnt that much and you would only need 1" thick glass for the view sides and for the equipment would be pricey like the rock and a skimmer and the lighting, but you could go DIY with the lighting and save a lot of money that way and try to find used equipment that is still in good shape and look for the good deals, but for the tank i would say if your lucky maybe 2,000 bucks for the tank alone and then some more.

I had a 75gal reef tank and I was into it about 13k. I built my own skimmers. To stock it would absolutely empty your bank account! Well if you are as poor as me anyways.
