I need something to supplement my current filtration. It is currently lightly stocked with 2 juvenile JDs, a Firemouth, 2 pictus catfish and 5 Giant Danios. The current filtration I have on there are:

Fluval 403 (yea I know its old)
AC 110
AC 50

So, should I add a xp3, 2217 or some other cannister?

If your ammonia and nitrite readings are at 0, as in, you have enough bio media to keep up with your stock, you really don't NEED more filtration. If you want to get more, I would throw an FX5 on there for giggles...

2217. I know the flow rate is not as high as some other filters for the money, but flow rate is not everything (IMO). I've been running one for about 7 years now, not a day off and its just as great as the first day.

I agree. If you set your fluval up as bio and both your ac's as mech/polishing, and do regular water changes you'll be more than ok. Unless you want to spend extra money, I would let it alone.

I would sell the old 403, sell the AC50 (its too small to be doing much on a tank that size anyway) and get a Rena XP3 and use it in conjuction with the AC110.

^ I agree. CL that baby while it's still running. :D

deffinetly go with the rena xp3, i personaly love the job mine does on my tank. plus i have never had problems with any of my rena canisters(knock on wood).

If you want more bio, go with the 2217, I get mine for as cheap as 10 bucks used on ebay and they all work with a new part here and there. Dirt cheap, easy to repair, spare parts easily available, decent flow rate and great volume for the price.
