I picked her up on Friday. She is my first large cichlid and I am very excited to have her. I named her Sumara. She is still a little shy but is slowly starting to come out more. She's out all the time when no one is near her tank but I'm still getting her used to me and the room mates. She does better with me, I suspect it is because I have been feeding her. She has a cave that she likes to retreat to when others approach her. Her previous owner fed her mainly freeze dried krill, but I'd like her to have a more varied diet. I tried Tilapia and shrimp with her today. She loved the bits of Tilapia fillet I gave her but shunned the shrimp. She chewed on it a bit but then spit it back out and ignored it. I also picked up frozen krill for her which became her favorite immediately. My eventual plan is to get a decent pelleted food and mix that with tilapia and krill as a sort of medley type food. She has an entire 5foot 120 gallon to herself and though I'd be tempted to add dithers I've seen what she does to her food and I'd imagine dithers would become an expensive meal. She has a huge mouth! Since she is an open water fish and a very messy eater (a fact she happily emphasized to me during her first feeding in the tank) I'll be doing 50-60 percent water changes once a week. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how much to feed her a day. I tend to prefer smaller daily feeding to large feedings once or twice a week. So without further ado here is Sumara. The pics don't do her justice. I just snapped a few quick ones on a point and shoot, crappy lighting and some turned out blurry but you get the idea. I'll get some decent ones of her with the dslr later on.
