11inch female Umbee

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If she is a he then she is a stunted he. I picked her up from Adhlc on the forums here who got her from a friend who raised her from a small fry and I trust his judgement. I have no clue why the other owner thought she/he was a female. I do know that the owner wanted a male very badly so I doubt he would have parted with her if he thought there was even a chance of her being a male. Maybe she laid eggs? *shrugs* What makes everyone say that she is a he? I'm new to Umbees so I don't really know how to sex them. I just assumed she was a very stunning female. I am going to be crushed if she is a male. I don't have a tank big enough to house a male umbee and I know I won't be able to upgrade anytime soon. Hopefully Adhlc will chime in soon. He knows more about her than I do. Thanks everybody for the replies. She/he/whatever is one of the most gorgeous fish I've ever seen.

The previous owner of this fish had a large male in a 265 besides this one who was in a 150. He raised this one up from a juvenile and it looks nothing like the male.

I am not an umbee expert but I can say with 100% certainty that it is either a male or a female. :D Either way, he/she is beautiful.

:iagree: I trust him. It's a female. Furthermore, she has the wrong body color to be a male (greenish grey vs. copper), her trailers do not extend past her caudal fin, and most importantly her vent is a nice round shape and not a pointy V shape. Sumara is definitely a female. A very nicely colored specimen but still a female.

Sumara's sex identification crisis aside, thanks everyone for the comments. She is most definitely my favorite fish. So much personality and great looks.

very nice but if it isn't a male or a female, you got a serious problem on your hands.
