it might not be the picking on one another. peacock bass are boisterous fish and for a number of reasons it's a bad tankmate for the gar. also it's noted that although done many times, arowanas aren't the best tankmates for gars.

1**-food. pbass eat very quickily, and chances are that the gar will be unable to get enough food
2-aggression. the pbass/aro might be punking the gar around when you're not watching. i'm not saying it's happeneing, but there's a relativly high chance
3**-gars like cool, slow moving tankmates. the quick, sudden and large movements from the bass and aro are likely to be stressing it out. more importantly, gars are very skittish fish. sudden movements are likely to startle them, sending them crashing into tank walls, and risking them breaking their backs.

My current aligator gar killed his silver aro tank mate a year and half ago (so far, gar seemed to get along only with oscar and RTC).

They were of equal length. Did not eat the vicitim (did not wait to find out) - just killed aro (it died in the quarantine on the same day).

PS: will try out flowerhorn and pacu as a tank mate for gar later.

I have read and heard from others that gars are skittish (hitting walls, breaking backs, breaking glass and all that) ... i must say, mines (2 gators) are not skittish at all. They were in the 150g no problem - now in ~3000 g. To date, i am yet to see any sudden movements ... well, the only time i saw them go berserk is when i was trying to catch it during the aquarium change ^^ they did put up quite a fight.

your gar will kill them all. my favourite quote from poly. "having tankmates with gator gars is like a daily roll of the dice. you never know if you'll still have tankmates at the end of the day."

maybe that's because you've got a gator gar....my 2cents, run a quick search on gator gar behaviours. you'd be amazed by what you find.
