spotted gars get about 2ft or 2.5 tops. and grow at a basic pase of 1" per month or so. they don't get TOO big so u might be able to house it for a long while. i have 2 in my 150gal tank.
That to me does not look like an Alligator gar in those pictures can you get some better pictures you could have a spotted Gar this is a more sensible fish that you could have the chance of keeping.
thanks alot you guys. thats a big relief knowing i can just get a larger tank and keep it. i dont have any better pics yet but if i get one ill post it for you. i did some research now that im home and i def. think its either a florida or spotted gar. im leaning towards the florida gar more though. what temp and ph would be best for a florida or a spotted?
It's probably a Florida...those are the most prevalent gars in stores nowadays. Gars are pretty resilient fish and can handle a wide variety of temperatures. You'll see people keeping them anywhere from 70-86 F based on what the tankmates are. Since they can surface and gulp air, the water temp (and oxygenation because of that) is a bit open to adjustment. As for pH...somewhere between 7-7.5 will be fine, but they're flexible there as well.
There's another thread concerning this individual gar. Since this no longer seems to be a sale thread, I'm closing this thread. The discusstion can continue in the other thread.
