12 Foot Monster Acrylic Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought a cheap rotary polisher from harbor freight and started buffing the entire tank with Meguiars Ultra Cut 105. I read a bunch of threads over on Reef Central and this seemed to get the best results. It was pretty complicated to start having to use different pads, speeds and 2 different compounds but once you get rolling it goes smoothly.

The finishing compound is Meguiars Mirror Glaze 205. I had to swap the course, orange pad out for a fine, white one on the buffer.

Picked up a bunch of PVC and bulkheads. I planned on using 2" rigid throughout and was dead set on a Bean Animal drain setup. I have a planted 340 gallon that came with (2) 1" dursos. They're loud and don't move a lot of water at all. I originally planned on doing a Herbie overflow but figured the extra drain of the Bean Animal makes it almost floodproof. It took me a few times reading through his design to understand it. Once I did get it it makes a lot of sense though. It basically has one dedicated full siphon that can move a ton of water. There's a second drain that has an airline attach to the top that will turn into a siphon if the water level increases. The third drain is an emergency exclusively. I figured this could easily handle 4000gph if necessary.

more pics more pics! lol

You've done a great job on this tank! I'm sure you can't wait to get it wet.
