well I prepared caves for her the night before for her to rest in but they got destroyed over night by the male he flopped the Slate cave over so... She is doing better now and the Midas has been at the opposite end of the tank for about 30 mins now. Though the Male Manny has been mouthing the female for the same time. It doesn't seem to be harming her but I still think it is aggression towards her. She submitting to him unbelievably though and almost looks as she is sulking.

try to give her a place to her self where she can some what hide and she will start to defend it plus she will feel a lot more secure.

We'll see thats the problem. The midas and Jag split the tank in Half for territory and it's been like that for months now and even if I changed up the decor they have already established their territory on which side of the tank is theirs. She won't be able to defend any territory because shes either in the Male manny's territory or the Midas's territory. I put a towel over one side of the tank to block out all light so she can rest inside a cave which she is doing now but still it's the Male manny's cave. Now that the attention is off her the Male manny and the Midas are both trying to get bigger territory and push the other one away. At least the female is resting and I am definately not worried about the Male manny and the Midas because they fight like wimps when trying to get more territory, but are more serious when defending existing teritory. We'll I'll do more things to see if it works out better. I have had breeding pairs of fish before but there was never this much mouthing or aggression to a female and I have never experienced two tank mates who hate each other team up to get another. :screwy: Whatever it's getting better so I am not as worried.

Keep an eye on them, but with her size advantage I wouldn't worry to much about her, she will be fine once settled and eating. Actually, she may decide to take over the tank if she has that big of a size advantage.

The Midas is still bigger than her so I don't see her taking over anytime soon. The situation is 1000000% better. The male is behaving and the Midas is staying on his side of the tank. I took off the towel turned the light on and walllaa they are a pair. I am some sort of magician lol. Even though she is from the same lake she looks nothing like my male at all. She is a white jag which I don't really care for too much but her body mass and how bad ass she looks makes her exceptional to me. She ain't the greatest but shes border line good. I will post pics once she heals up. She's got some missing scales and a couple ripped fins and her slime coat is a little chopped up from rubbing on the driftwood and being mouthed by the male.

My g/f always said cichlids were white trash couples in abusive relationships with no commitment.

I am glad everything is doing fine now, I can tell you are really excited about this jag though, I hope everything turns out fine and you can get some lovely F1's!

"Cross Copperfield"...nice ring to it :D

you crack me up....you went from freaking out to "i'm a magician" in no time

way to hang in there

One question though...why did you leave the Midas in there? I've never keptt Midas or Jags but would've assumed there might be trouble. Is he/she that calm that you didn't expect it to be a problem for your jag pair or what?

No I left him in there because the tank is big enough right now to handle the pair and midas with minimal problems. The Midas is moving out in maybe a month or 2 to another 150 or 125 which ever is cheaper and I am buying another barred midas but a female so I will be breeding Barred Midas as well. I knew there was going to be some problems with him because he is always doing something bad but I knew that he wouldn't really mess with a Jag pair and he would keep to himself more in which is somewhat doing now. Everyone is calming down so it's all set. I mean my midas is an ass**** but not so much that it takes over his intelligence. Obviously he won't mess with a mated pair of Jags that are both almost equal size of him.

If he is in there when those jags really bond you can kiss his ass goodbye, better start building that good old eggcrate wall now.
