12 inch sun catfish- SHOULD I GET IT???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I REALLY want to rescue the poor 14 inch gar to... Worried he will kill my 5" bala sharks... Here are pics of him...

I'd say high chances the gar will go for them nice silvery, mid-swimming things, successfully or not but sooner or later he will kill them. Gars are biters. Will try and bite things they cannot swallow, not even close, they still keep trying. Are you not worried that your 26" CK will eat them?

My 26"CK eats EVERYTHING. But the biggest thing that he ever TRIED to eat was a 6 inch red empress cichlid... But that was cause he was hungry and not fed for 7 days cause of vacation.,. But he tends to enjoy eating my "torpedo" shape fish like my 5 leporinus, 7/10 of my bala sharks... 2 pike cichlids, torpedo barbs, auratus cichlids etc. i have tried EVERYTHING and tinfoil barbs seem to be the only ones that are tall enough to not get chomped... But, The sun cat is fat enough to not get eaten... He doesnt go after bottom dwellers for some reason either.. He got along FINE with 4 baby RTCS and they were 2"... Weird fish LOL!

Yep. I actually have my own add on craigslist stating that i will take "unwanted" freshwater fish... And well... I have gotten like 5 oscars in a week... LOL! I kinda expected that though... But, instead of just going and buying "rare" expensive fish i have decided it is just as rewarding or even MORE rewarding to save fish in need... Then, with some of the "rescues" i will eventually "adopt" out... I kinda stole the idea just a little from the member on MFK, HoYo12... He used to do this with fish but he stopped so i decided to try it... Anyways, i will keep you guys updatedon him when i get him... I may start another "rescue" thread for this sun catfish to...

Cool. I too have a Fish Wanted ad on Craigslist for south and central FL.

If the bala sharks are food for the CK anyway, then why are you worried about the gar? There is something I am missing.

Excellent! I think more people should start doing this as well. It would save them money, save fish, and were all happy. Lol
