So I got my 125 setup and running and Iw as thinking about adding a tankmate or two. The tank currently houses a 12" red oscar and a 10" albino red oscar. So any tankmates I add would need to be 6" right now but not get too big for a 125g within a year (that or be compatible with koi lol). As always upgrading is part of the game so next year about the same time I'll be going for a 300g.

now alot of people keep red belly pacus with oscars but it seems like they get far too big for a 125 within a year. I've though about JD's but they only get to 10" and a 6" one would be expensive not to mention my 12" O is very aggressive and tends to eat those who piss him off. piece by piece if he has to so a 10" JD might not be so good.

he seems to tolerate bottom feeders though. idk what do you think?

EDIT: umm mods please change the ' to a " in the title while a 12' oscar would be awsome my typo totally isn't possible. lol

Looking for cichlids specifically? Dithers? I take it the Oscars no matter what will be the focal point of the tank?

not cichlids specifically just something that is large enough and compettitive enough to be in with my 12" O or somethign so placid he'll leave it alone.

Maybe some silver dollars. You could try a nice pleco like a royal.

how big do royals get?

If you don't care to see them Raphael Catfish. But at 12" that is one Oscar who may not tolerate anymore tankmates.

clown loaches. That is what I am going to have in my 120. Oscars and Clown Loaches

royals will max out at about 14-16" but they don't grow real fast like a common or sailfin.

i dont know my 14in Oscars always got their ass whooped by my 6 in fryeri and by all the other fish in my tank 2 in convicts, jd etc... they only figthed between themselves.. thats until i separated them.
if urs is agressive i think a 6 in jd could take care of itself, u can try to find a cheap one. :P
