12' oscar tanks mates 125g

thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look into clown loaches and the royal pleco. I like the idea of slower growing as it seems I can't keep commons in my tanks long, they seem to only be in them for a few months before I have to drop them in the pond. I've seen many tanks with clown loaches as well. i'll have to take a look into dietary needs

the JD intrigues me I may just have to try it, if it doesn't work out I can always put the JD in my 55 long.

now I currently ahve my O's barebottom due to messiness with gravel would sand be better? I like the look of it better but am worried about vacumming.

being that my sump is siphon based the impeller on my pump would be safe from the sand as the pump is at the end of the mechanical/bilogical filtration.

Try the JD or a GT even. But yes, have a back up because it may not be long before your oscar is being bullied and beaten, especially with the terror.

I've got JD's living with my O's, and they actually don't fight with each other at all. Even when my JD's get into breeding mode things are still fine.

My O's are smaller than yours though being about 5-6 inches. JD's are about 4ish inches if not smaller. (I've never measured my fish)

I'd say they'd get on just fine and mine are in a 120.

The only ones fighting are my two O's with each other but never really rough or anything.

Not sure but why not a Texas? They get to a decent size and are certainly tough enough to fight for themselves.

yeah i think a g tex would be perfect thats what i have my oscar is kinda of passive and at least 12- 14 '' and my green tex is super a aggressive and a fat 10 inches ( opposed to my jd who is a thin 10 inches
i also have two smaller clown loaches in the tank and they eat the sinking cichlid food, its keeping them nice and fat too ( clown loaches are pricey if you buy them big, and they grow slow, but there color and personality makes any tank light up
i bought small ones they could easily fit in my oscars mouth but they hav those defensive spikes on the side of there heads so they will be fine ( try to pick one up... stab they hurt i wouldnt try to eat it....lol
royal plecs are nice but also very pricey
but they live fine to gether

hmm from everything I've heard the texas would fight with my O's and I'd rather not have to worry about that, especially when i'm gone and my wife is home, she wouldn't be able to seperate them as the tank is too tall for her to get in. (she's 4'11" I'm 6'2") so if they fought they'd go till death.

also i shoudl mention my O's are a male and female pair. which of course rules out any other O's but could influence behavior with other cichlids as well.

yeah that's what I'm afraid of. while I like aggressive fish I'm not really into coming home to a floater. lol
