glad to hear they're eating.

12 volt man, try looking at your tap water under a high powered microscope. maybe youve got something in it that harms your fish?

but, if the fish get better, that works too lol. good luck!

doubtful, our tap water here is very safe - low turbidity, disinfected well etc.

bad news: the affected barb is not doing well. the belly region has become a little hollow in the last 48h (even though it is eating) and the tissue around the eye is swollen - classic bacterial infection symptoms..not good..

the curse continues..damn...

any new fish>?

its not a good situation.

through good care I have got the swollen eye problem back to normal with the original infected fish, however two of the 5 fish are not eating normally.

I have seen the stringy feces like the pic I posted in each of these fish at one time or another so I believe they are all infected.

its my own fault because I saw stringy feces in the tank way back when they were small, but I didn't think much of it at the time because of how well they were eating and growing...

problem is, these sorts of infections are rare in cyprinids and characins, (south american cichlids are more prone to this sort of stuff for some reason)

and internal infections like this are very difficult to treat.

meds added to the water (in powder or liquid form) usually do nothing.

medicated food can help but I can't get these fish to eat the food I got for them. they spit it out.

I love my setup, but man, have I had some bad luck fishwise. but thats life.

I have a feeling I may have to start this tank over yet again.. you now what happens I guess..

the sev in the 20g is doing very well though..thats at least some good news :)

hey at least there's some good news.

as far as the barbs go, i think its a lost cause.... sadly.

it seems like they just wont cooperate no matter what you do.

im all for restarting the tank... perhaps with fish from a different lfs?

I am trying to look on the bright side. yes, I have had some bad luck with fish in this huge tank. but I put a lot of money into this setup and I like it very much.

I am just looking at it as a work in progress at the moment.

I have been at my new house for a year now, and I expect to live here for some time and the tank is here to stay. so even if it takes me some time to finally get a selection of fish in the tank that works well and looks great, then so be it.

I am in no rush.

I always dreamed of having a really big tank for years while at my parents (and there are many threads on this board showing all the tanks and fish I used to have while there) and that dream has come true.

so I am quite happy in that regard.

yes. I have a few stores in mind to check out.

that could be the solution. perhaps the store you got these fish at has been getting bad shipments.
