:WHOA: You pulled a lot of plants! I'm sure they'll fill in really quickly tho. I really couldn't tell how thick it got in there until seeing how much you removed. Can't wait to see it start filling in again. :headbang2

haha yeah I didn't know there would be so many of them in there ! you only realize how much surface there is for the plants inside of the tank once you look from above :X

and yes, me too I can't wait to see the plants fill in now, added one new plant + made some space for the light to get directly to my fave Ammannia gracilis ( the red plant on the right side ) I want them to get RED ! =)

still wanting to add young Florida Gars !!! :( can't find them

You have inspired me. i mean i work next to a glass shop who throws out huge sheets of glass everyday haha.

your tank is absolutely stunning. two thumbs up.

one thing about your lotus. I threw some lotus bulbs in my tank many years ago and it thrived. took over the whole top of the tank and i loved the vines saggin down from the top of the tank to it's base. it was sweet watching all my fish swim threw it... but then it just took over. all my other plants started to die off. my tank was is a standard 55 with about 3-4" of black flourite. after closer inspection and a trimming i found that the lotus roots had spread out through out the sand of the entire tank stripping all the nutrients from my over plant. Also the floating pads when they get larger block a lot of the light from your shorter plants.

I'd think about pulling the lotus just my opinion. If you have any suggestions as to what i could have done to prevent the problems I had I'd love to hear.

and once again man I love your tank. one of the best i've seen

HI

Thank you for the compliments on the build =]

As of the experience with the lotus, well they like to eat =) so feed them ... they can really "eat" a lot with strong lights-I would always shove a lot of root tabs for them, ( all plants would get one tab and lotus would get 3 or 4 ). I also don't think that the main reason why you might've experienced problems with the plants was that lotus was "stealing" from them ... hard to say anything if you don't see it / test is right there when it's happening ... They are definitely thieves :) I had to trim my floating leaves every 4-5-6 days or so when the tank was in its prime. So absolutely trim the floaters ( unless you like the way they look and do not have many other plants that are eager to see some more light ) and FEED them a lot once they root in your substrate.

sorry for the late response, I was not on this forum for quite a long time =]

Take care, thank you for the suggestion(s) and good luck with the future lotus plants =]
