120 gal stock

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats a lot of fish for a 5 foot tank. texas +10inch, red devil +10inch, jd around 10inches, hybrid +10 inches, flower horn idk, jag +12inch. thats a lot of aggressive fish for a tank of your size.

i personally am not a fan of over stocking though. water gets really dirty, really fast. i say you keep your current stock and see what comes from it.

+1

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to find a way to get my jag. Getting another tank is out of the question as I already have a 90 and a 120. Maybe I'll just move my jack to the 90, as he's my very first cichlid (actually, I think it's a she lol) and I've got a soft spot for it. The only other fish I have an attachment to is my hybrid. It's a beauty. Maybe I'll just keep him and keep my jag in the 120.

That's a idea just be aware jags can be very hard on tank mates. My jag is a little rough on my vieja mix, which is why some of my stock is getting moved

If you had the actual dimensions of the tank that would help. If your really set on a jag. I would make sure you have a good substrate. Smooth small gravel as they love to move rocks around and dig. Have enough hides. Caves rocks driftwood etc. I hate solo fish personally and 2 is very risky! I would say minimum 3 to spread any aggression. Jags are bigger and slower so keep that In mind when choosing tank mates.

Thanks!! Yeah I make caves out of slate right now but I'm leaning towards driftwood now.

Dimensions are 60x18x26.

I disagree on the slow jag point, my boy is 13 inches and still very quick when he wants to be

Having caves for hiding isn't as important as having large line-of-sight breaks. You don't want the weaker fish hiding ALL the time to not get killed, you want them to have locations in the tank where they can swim and be comfortable while not being seen.

All I ment was there not fast enough to catch smaller more agile tank mates. My jag can't touch anything in my tank.

If you have adequate hiding places and the jag doesn't figure out how to get them out the hiding place. Jags do have huge mouths,if you wanna go smaller fish with larger jag route make sure you have places that the jag can't even get its face into

Whats the jaw extension on a jag, aint it 6% of there body length? if he can suck it out he will. My jag lives alone. she does not play nice.
