got a 120 with a pair of jaguar cichlids with no gravel just some rocky caves in it and im starting to get alot of algae so was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to keep algae away with a low budget, not clean every week, no potions, and no plecos cause they will kill it and uv sterlizers are pretty damn out of my budget. any one have anything on this?

not clean every week

Clean your tank more often.

Do you have it in direct sunlight? How long do you run your lights every day & what type are you running?

Clean your tank every week, don't be lazy.

Green water or algae on the rocks? UV would only help green water. Do more WC's and limit light amount. Have you tested the water.....phosphate, nitrate?

You already mentioned all the things to remove algae. Only thing I can think of is sunlight and the light of the tank like mentioned in the other 2 replies.

Just remove it, it's no big deal I remove my algae every week as well although it's not much.

How often do you change your water?

Lighten up on the feedings. Lighten up on the lights. Weekly water changes are part of the responsibility of owning an aquarium.

if its the water that is green leave the lights off and cover the tank with a sheet for a week no sunlight untill the algae dies then a heavy vacuuming

easy.. take care of the normal responsibilities......no way of getting around algae without a little work.

Agreed. Cleaning algae is 1 of the responsibilities of owning a tank. Or get a L190 pleco got a 2 inch baby a day ago and my 150 gallon is almost clean :headbang2

yep, gotta clean it or get a pleco those are probably ur choices

I agree with the guys above on this. You definitely have to keep up on water changes, limit exposure to direct sunlight, make sure that your tank lights are not designed to maximize plant growth, and avoid excessive feedings. I have the same size tank as you, with more fish and I have no algae problems. Weekly water changes and correct lighting works for me. A few times a month I do scrub the glass before water changes to get the beginning stages of algae growth.
