Blue Cats to me, dont seem like they could get much bigger, each time I see a monster over 100lbs, their body seems to be maxed out. Now a Flathead on the other hand has a much different body and they get longer, huge head, etc. I think, IMO the Flathead is our largest cat in the US. I would beleive a 300lb flat before I would a 300lb blue, but I could be wrong. You do hear tales about big blues but hardly no or no photos whatsoever and a lot of folks guess their weight and are off by a lot.
My buddy who bought fish from guys around Land Between the Lakes and the Ohio river, one of his buddies was checking his trot line, he was pulling in the first one felt something heavy..as he and his buddy was pulling it in, they saw the biggest flathead they ever seen, they didnt give a weight but said as they got closer to it, the flathead opened its mouth and out came a blue cat around 30lbs.... They kept the blue even thou it was dead just to weigh it. If I had to guess, since Ive caught blues over 40 and biggest flathead is 51lbs, this was well over the current world record, I'd say it would have to push over 150-175, just have too. 30lbs is a lot of cat to be completely inside the cats mouth. I sure do wish he got it on video or got it in.
