120 vs 125 gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
FYI aqueon is sunsetting all their large format tanks, starting at 90’s
I just spoke with Aqueon this morning as I also heard this rumor. Bottom line it is partially true. They are discontinuing larger tanks with clear silicone. They will still be making them in black silicone only. I was concerned as I'm looking for a 180. But I can still get it in black silicone which is my preference anyway. The rationale for DC'ing big tanks with clear silicone is most people want the black silicone. That's the good news. The bad news is their glass drilling machine broke down and they are not currently drilling tanks.

thanks for clearing that up- My LFS put up a post so ppl were aware but didn't mention anything about the seal color.

i wrote to their support group stating i thought it was a bad idea- given there are no longer any 7 foot tanks or 3' wide tanks in production that there is now a gap in the market

We live in strange times. If the manufacturers start messing with production they may put a big dent in LFS business and aquarium business. It would really suck if the only larger tanks available were through custom makers at double to quadruple the cost.

i already feel that places like petco should only be able to sell fish that can live their lives in the tanks they sell.

that being said 90 is the largest ive seen in a petco and my 125 was the largest ive seen in a petsmart

Does this mean theyre discontinuing them? Or are they on sale? I cant find any discounts or anything.
aussieman57 aussieman57 cleared it up. Clear seals are going in favor of black seals.... even so they wouldn't be on sale, pricing would likely increase due to scarcity.

would appreciate a tank that is 24" front to back, but i would really like a 72" long aquarium so i could house a couple more cichlids and maybe a flagtail without territory issues.

What do you all think?

Well, the obvious answer is get a 24"X72" tank. That would be about 180 gallons. which would be another bonus.
