What’s up guys. I’m looking for some advice and help on the best way to set up filtration for a new tank I’m ordering.

Tank will be 165x40x40 on a 34” stand

I’m wondering if I should use a sump or just an ultima filter.

I’ve always used sumps and I’m currently running a sump on my 500 gallon. I love it but I also think the convenience of an ultima type filter is amazing. Just unsure if it will be enough.

Tank will be acrylic so I can literally set it up however I want.

The plans right now that I want/need would be a side overflow, at least one extra drain hole3/4” for water changes.

I’m wondering what everyone else has done and what the setups have looked like.

Also, if you are in my shoes and have the chance to set up filtration however you want what would you choose?

My water source will literally be about 5ft from the tank so water changes will be a breeze.

I’m keeping aros, rays, dats. Thanks again

Also 500gallon tank will be up for sale soon and it is mint. Located in south FL

Ultima is most definitely the best for “ease of matinence”… i would recommend also running a large moving bed/reactor of k1 for bio in addition to the untima tho. When u back wash the ultima you can crash ur system so the k1 will keep everything stable as the untima works both as mechanical and biological. Other than that, set up an autodrip system and ur basically matinence free across the board 💀🤙

Sounds like an awesome tank. I would definitely up the drain to at least 1 inch. 3/4 going to take too long to drain. Is this water change going into the sewer or plumbed to outside?

It would be going into the garden. And yes I can’t wait! Only issue in having is drawing up either the sump filtration or the ultima type filter.

with rays and etc youll have heavy bio load so i would use a sump with k1 for bio and a ultima for mech along with a r/o drip.
id also plumb for a drain and return from w/e water source your usin for easy wc.
