Hey guys, I have a 120G tank that is 4/2/2, and is filterd by 2 Cascade 1500 cannister filters. I also do 80% water changes every week without question. I have 1 Jack Dempsey Male 4in, 1 Convict Male 3in, 1 Firemouth Male 3inch, and 3 small Clown Loaches. I wanted to see if I could add 1 Bumble Bee Oscar (Rapps) or an Albino Red Oscar. The reason why I was thinking Bumble Bee is I dont think they get as big as a regular Oscar. I know it will be pushing it as far as water chemistry is concerned but I am real good about water changes and I think he would maybe get along with the current tank mates. That would be my first choice, but I have 1 more question. I always wanted a Midas, so instead of the Oscar could I go with a Midas. I know how aggresive and big they get, I wanted to throw it out there but I know that would get shot down, they really need their own tank, but just wanted to see what you guys think. Would you do the Oscar or Midas (prob. not), or just leave it as is. One more option might be to get another Male Convict, but I dont know if 2 males would work. I know its a lot of question but let me know what you guys think. Thanks a lot!!

a midas cichlid would destroy everything in the tank bumblebee oscar get the same size so if you want you can get 1 more oscar but there is a 50 percent chance that this will not work

If you get both Oscars at the same time, then there is a better chance they will not beat each other up, but since it is a 120 gallon and you have other cichlids inside the tank to where it wont be worth it, unless you bought a 200 gallon or above tank.

Where does the OP say anything about getting two oscars? :duh:

The oscar would probably work though this will make for a crowded tank when the fish are full grown. The midas will have a very low chance of success and the tank would still eventually be crowded. All oscars have the potential to get the same size. Your best bet would be just adding another convict. Most likely two male convicts will not cause issues.

I think you would be fine adding one Oscar to the 120 with the others for a little while. Four feet in length doesn't leave much space for large cichlids. Your two largest fish would be the Oscar and JD. The Clown loaches will also eventually get pretty large too. But that will take quite some time. Be careful about choosing a Midas though. They can sometimes be very hard to keep in a community. One more thing, keep an eye on your Oscar with the loaches. If the Oscar decides to dine on one of them, both the Oscar and the loach can die if the loach's spines get lodged in the Oscar's throat.

tell that to my Gt he's growing about an inch a month same as most oscars lol

Lol, well, I have a GT too and I've had him for about 2 months and hes lucky if he grew a half an inch. & hes in a bigger tank then yours is, maybe something is slowing down mines growth?

My GT is in a 225 and I´ve had him probably 2 months now, my Bifa has grown from 2" - 4" whereas the GT has grown maybe half an inch. It doesnt help that I think I have a female but I think for MOST of us (definately not all) the GT´s tend to grow slower.

I have a midas right now and hes around 4" he has tons of target fish (columbian tetras and black skirts) as well as other cichlids and hes quite mean.
even in my tank size he likes to chase the others, but luckily he never hurts anyone, just likes to keep himself looking at the top.

so yeah I feel they would be overly aggressive in your tank and that the oscars are a great choice. Ive never had any trouble mixing oscars but like mentioned above I buy them together when young, so I guess it must work.

Good luck anyway and keep us updated!
