Nice community of fish! A lot of my all time favs. What L number is that gold nugget? Looks like the small spot species, what do you feed it? I've been looking to get one, but my luck with plecos is bad lol
Thanks Cohazard. That means alot coming from someone whose tank and fish choices I have admired ever since I got on this site and into datnoids. Which in turn got me into bichirs looking for tankmates for a dat and jardini.
Did a search on your threads and seen that you recentlly got a NTT. I have to agree it is one of my favorites too out of the AT's, IT's, and the NTT's that I have had. Had 5 dats, 2 AT's, 2 IT's, and 1 NTT but got rid of them all except the NTT cause the IT's never stayed stable and the AT's constantlly fought with each other except no one messed with the smallest which was the NTT.
The LFS got some in last monday so I bought 4 more. All really gold and eating really good which is awesome seeing they were river caught. Might of been a bad idea seeing I want 2 NGT's and 1 or 2 ST's. But I can always swap a few out later down the road. But I also want 2 delhezi's and 2 other bichirs maybe laps or retros or congs seeing they will all be in a 240 by then, maybe you can help decide.
Which bichirs should I add?
As for the L number for the gold nugget it's L081. One of the best choices for a pleco if you are going for beauty. My first pleco was a common and after he hit 14" and after I got hoaxed into taking my ma's 10" which they got way too massive for my 120 I knew I never wanted another one like that. The L081 is really black which I guess are really hard to keep alive from what I read(copied from this site
http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=154 ):
L081 is reported in DATZ to represent three very similar small spotted gold nugget plecos. Reportedly, the first is very hard to keep alive
(which I believe is mine) for any length of time; the others are considerably more hardy. While these fish may represent the range of population, it appears that the browner (as opposed to black) and finer the spots (amongst comparatively sized specimens) the more likely you are to have a hardy type. Little is know of what this fish looks like at adult size.
But I feed mine mainly what the others eat seeing they are carnivorous which is mainly BW's, raw shrimp, and I throw in high protien flakes that just he eats and on occasion krill pellets. I hear they are skittish which mine was only with me at first but not as much anymore. He moves extremelly fast never slow when he is doing any type of movement. And they have a temper on them, if they don't want another fish around them no mattter who it is. So watch out with bichirs. But he mainlly is more aggressive with the royal.
