Not up an running but in the process have FX6 and Fluval E300. Got 3 big pieces of driftwood setup already. Gonna be collecting water from my homie the next few days to help me cycle the tank faster. Light setup is Current LED 48" with different modes very happy with it.

Fish is soon too come enjoy some pics for now of my tank lol

Nice looking fish! Thanks for sorting out the pics. So these are guys you have now? Or these are the plecs you are getting? Nice dimensions of that tank also. Did you buy new or used? I would like to have an acrylic tank of about those dims and am considering diy because of cost. I am also thinking about building a custom stand for it and a sump.

I am not an authority on fishfeeping and cycling tanks, but I am pretty sure you want to get either some substrate (some of the sand if used) or borrow a piece of wood from your buddies established aquarium. I recently squeezed out some of the gunk/detritus (crap) from the first stage sponge from my canister in a cycled tank, directly into the water of new tanks to seed the beneficial bacteria (bb) also. I have heard that the water column holds little bb to jumpstart the cycle, but the substrate and wood or rocks hold lots. Some with much more knowledge may chime in, or simply look through some of the beginner threads / stickies in the gen aquarium threads. Loads of good info that a lot of really smart people have put out. Good luck!

I bought the tank brand new. And thanks I currently own those plecos along with two royal goldline L27 growouts in another thread. After 8+ years fish keeping experience I've learned not use substrate and gravel with pleco tanks jus best to keep bare IME/IMO lol I will be getting established water already an will cycle for a week or two along with me adding prime, aquarium salt, and nutrafin cycle I should be jus fine I appreciate the thought though

Goodluck on ur build keep people posted there's always people here willing to help but take everything with a grain of salt, IMO best to experience everything first before finding the quick fix

Misantos -thanks. I looked at some of your posts and realized I was "helping" someone with much more knowledge than me.... after I sent that post. Lol. Hey I too have an L27. Got him from Rapps. He is about 3.5 inches. I have a three beacon with him in a sand substrate 55 along with 4 Abn, but I am going to move them to a 40breeder that I just bought. I am not a fan of the 55 -its only 12inches wide and really tall. I did build a custom stand for it (very nice) but the tank is an older glass and pretty scratched. While searching for a replacement, I realized how much I didn't like it and decided to go with this breeder. Its 3' x 2' x16" (I think thats the height). I had bought sand to keep in it but now I am having second thoughts. I read that some like sand and others would rather have the ease of clean up. I am now up in the air as I think about finishing setting it up. Yesterday I did paint the back and bottom flat black as I do like that look.

I also have a larger watermelon L330 that was just moved to my community cichlid tank (all young) I am now realizing how much I love catfish though! Thanks again. jt PS... speaking of taking things with a "grain of salt" lol... how much aquarium salt do you use in your pleco tanks? jt

JTizzle- in reality it's really what u wanna see and how much maintenance u wanna have. And no worries I don't mind people offering opinions it's human nature lol

As far as the salt goes I use 1tbsp per 10g.
