Wolf3101, I understand exactly what you are saying and agree for the most part. However, My water is crystal clear, Ammonia is 0 - Nitrites 0 - Nitrates under 10. I have 2 huge Green Sevrums, 6 large Silver dollars, 4 bichirs, 3 shark cats and a 10" Jardini in a 180. Filtration is a 2260 and 2217 both get serviced about every 90 days or so.
If you are familiar with Eheim canisters they are Mostly Bio, Ceramic rings on bottom then sponge, then bio then floss.
Now to what you were saying, I do gravel vac and change abit more than 30% of my water weekly which removes alot of crap.
