By all means, keep the fish you want! LMB are pretty cool, and then when it gets big you can put it in the pond and see it in the shallows and think about when it was young.

Noto is right about buying a sump. Way too much money unless you can find a deal used. If you go canister, then look at fluval fx5. They're about $200 on ebay. That's about all you'd need, although you might want a HOB for top work (hang on back). If that, then look at the Hagen AquaClear for decent cheaper ones.

You don't need a chiller, but if you live where it's hot your bass will have better coloring and less stress in the summer. I'm not saying you need one, just it might be an idea.
Be careful. Not all fish are suited for 125gal or pond life.

Redeye bass look very similar to largemouth bass, only much smaller and have bright red tail.

Redfin pickerel and juvie northern pike look same.

This is redeye bass, much smaller than normal LMB but more attractive.

WOW, Thats a beauty, how big do they get and what part of the country do they come from? Wait i just googled that, gets too big for my meager tanks, and if i cant keep somthing til it dies i cant have it, Still a fantastic fish , Thanks for showing that Rebel.

Most redeye bass come from Southeast of United States and usually reach to 8 inch in few areas while some populations reached 14inch long. Biggest record red eye bass weigh just 5 pounds.

I have a pond on my property which I can legally release anything that gets too big so max size isn't too much of an issue.....

I was thinking about a mix of 2-3" LMB, SMB, Walleye, Perch, Crappie, pick's ect. (not all at once but a good mix) and releasing them when they get too big....

I'll assume then that you are permitted by the NYSDEC to stock your pond.

Do you have any details on your pond? Size, depth, water source? Not all fish will do well in a pond.

The fish you listed usually have a size restriction, them being game fish and all, which means they may be too big to put in your tank to begin with if legally caught. Your other option would be to purchase from fish hatcheries or farms.

For a 125g, I would recommend a Eheim 2028 canister filter. It is an excellent filter which I've have a good experience with. It will run you $200-300 unless you find it on sale.

The guy at the LFS tried to steer me away from Canister Filters....He says they dont turn over enough water and provide too fine of a filtration for what I need....

Any truth to that? What size Canister would provide sufficient water circ. for my size tank? I looked at the Rena at a petsmart the other day....Is that brand any good??

What are your reccomendations?? I would rather be over powered than under....

If you are looking at small canister filters, then yeah, they won't work well. The Eheim Pro 2028 is large enough and will do the job. If you want something even bigger, the Fluval FX5 would be nice and can be had for around $300 new. Rena is a piece of junk IMO. It works but is built pretty poorly. I always feel like I'm going to break it and I've seen others say the same.

It really depends on your setup. What type of substrate do you want and are you wanting plants? You still have to vacuum waste unless you are pushing so much water the waste stays suspended long enough to be captured by the intake. Your fish would most likely not enjoy that much flow. It also depends on how many fish and how often they are fed.

I don't know of anyone selling redeye bass ATM, but Zimmerman's Fish is attempting to breed them. Keep tuned to http://forum.nanfa.org/index.php?showforum=228. Recent discussion : http://forum.nanfa.org/index.php?showtopic=6909.
